Capricorn Eagles Set for Uganda Women’s Day Cup Tournament
The Capricorn Eagles team is set to compete in the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) Women’s Day Cup from 8–16 March 2025. The team departed on 5 March, the Eagles will take on Uganda (hosts), Hong Kong, and Nepal in a high-stakes T20 quadrangular tournament.
At a special send-off, Honourable Dr Emma Kantema-Gaomas, Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, praised the team’s dedication and highlighted their growing impact on Namibian sport. “As we gather here today, we also reflect on the passing of our Founding Father, H.E. Dr. Sam Nujoma. Though we mourn his loss, we honour his legacy by continuing to strive for excellence.
The Capricorn Eagles exemplify the resilience and determination that define us as a nation,” she said. Dr. Kantema-Gaomas commended the Eagles for their achievements and their role in inspiring young athletes across Namibia. “Capricorn Eagles, your journey is one of perseverance and passion. You have shown young girls across our country that with hard work and determination, they, too, can represent Namibia on the global stage. We are incredibly proud of you.” She also acknowledged Capricorn Group’s pivotal role in the growth of women’s cricket in Namibia. “Strong partnerships are crucial in advancing sport, and Capricorn Group has demonstrated outstanding commitment to empowering women in cricket. Their continued investment ensures that our players have the opportunities they deserve.” The Namibian government remains committed to cricket development, having invested N$ 2.5 million in the National Cricket Sports Grounds and allocated N$ 3.1 million to Cricket Namibia for the 2024/2025 financial year.
A Tournament Filled with Opportunity
The Capricorn Eagles head into the competition with confidence, having delivered outstanding performances in recent months. In late 2024, the team secured a dominant 3-0 series victory over Malaysia before putting up a strong fight in Hong Kong, reaching the final of a competitive tournament. Currently ranked 17th in the world in women’s T20 cricket, Namibia is keen to build on this momentum. The tournament in Uganda presents an exciting rematch against Hong Kong, as well as a renewed challenge against Uganda, a team they last faced during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier. With a mix of experienced players and emerging young talent, the Capricorn Eagles are determined to make their mark on the international stage.

Capricorn Group remains a steadfast supporter of Namibian women’s cricket, reinforcing its commitment to developing the sport. “Last year, we proudly renewed our partnership with Cricket Namibia, and we continue to be inspired by the incredible progress of the Capricorn Eagles,” said Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group Executive: Brand & Corporate Affairs. “Together with Capricorn Asset Management (CAM) and Capricorn Private Wealth (CPW), we invest in this team because we believe in the power of sport to drive positive change for Namibian women and girls.”
Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller echoed this sentiment. “Capricorn Group has been instrumental in elevating women’s cricket in Namibia. Their continued support is helping us build a strong foundation for future generations of players.” Adding to the growing excitement, Namibia recently earned One Day International (ODI) status and now ranks 17th in the world. Namibia will play the ICC Africa World Cup qualifiers for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026. The country is also set to host a major ICC tournament from 31 August to 7 September 2025, further cementing its place on the global cricket map.
A Nation Stands Behind the Capricorn Eagles
